Something is conjured when Gapp | Cirera | Furtado and Spoken Word artisan Rodrigo Brandão come together. Initiated by Samuel Gapp, the ensemble brings to life a collaboratively conceived music, anew with every performance.
Among its elements are words written or selected by Rodrigo Brandão and spoken by him. The messages expressed through sound and language shape and influence one another in an organic feedback loop. At the heart of this process is listening, as both its point of origin and its shared point of reference.
Like the Pororoca, when two forces meet and their resistance gives rise to a natural phenomenon: an unstoppable movement that carries everything forward. An old African proverb says: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
A ritual conjured through collective collaboration, under the sign of the Orixás: AXÉ.
The collaboration between Samuel Gapp and Brazilian Spoken Word artist Rodrigo Brandão explores the reciprocal relationships between several thematic zones: rupture and ritual in performance, transcultural practice, and the composition/improvisation dichotomy referring to both written and oral traditions.
