About the piece / Program Note
“Konstellationen I – VII (iter. 1 / Bled)” assembles seven miniatures whose relationships shift from one performance to the next, forming new constellations each time.

The piece took shape through an interplay between my own material and short improvisations by the performers, offered in response to specific ideas I proposed. Some of the improvisations entered the work unchanged, while others were extended, transformed, or paired with complementary material. This process, somewhat fragmented yet strongly collaborative (drawing on contributions from performers with different profiles, experiences and geographical backgrounds), called for the avoidance of a fixed formal structure, opening instead toward a more active, situation-specific dynamic.

As a result, the seven independent and yet interconnected miniatures operate largely through fragments that are activated, combined and counterpointed according to more or less defined rules. Their order is discovered only immediately before the performance through a chance procedure, allowing a new formal sequence to come into being with each iteration. This suggests a state of un-knowing in which heightened energy and a vivid dialogue between the performers and with the audience can emerge.

In this sense, the title points to the work’s continuous redefinition in each situational realization, articulating its modularity through shifting constellations of materials and form. This ontological indeterminacy (“what is, could have been otherwise”) is crucial to the piece – lastly reflecting ephemerality and radicancy (understood as a condition of constant re-rooting) as natural givens of our time.
